Links that actually help
Links from other websites are one of the ways Google judges whether a business is trusted and relevant. For a bouncy castle company, the best links come from the real world you already work in: schools, venues, local events, community groups and suppliers.
What doesn't help is buying cheap links from unrelated sites. They rarely work for long, and they can do real damage.
Places to start
- Schools and PTAs you've supplied for fun days and fairs. Many list their sponsors and suppliers.
- Venues such as village halls, community centres, pubs and sports clubs you deliver to, which may have a list of recommended suppliers.
- Local events you support, such as carnivals, fetes and charity days.
- Other party suppliers you work alongside, such as entertainers, caterers, cake makers and venues.
- Local business groups, chambers of commerce and town websites.
- Good directories that are relevant to your area or industry, such as the directories I run.
Give people a reason to link
- Write up events you've supplied, with photos, and let the organisers know so they can share them.
- Sponsor or donate a hire for a school or charity event, which often earns a mention and a link.
- Create useful guides, such as how much garden space a castle needs or ideas for a school fun day, that schools and parents want to share.
- Share local stories, such as a new castle, a milestone or a community project, with local news sites.
What to avoid
- Paid links from unrelated sites, link packages and private blog networks.
- Low-quality directories that list anyone and everything.
- Swapping links with dozens of other businesses just for the sake of it.
- Spammy comments on blogs and forums.
Frequently asked questions
How many links do I need?
Fewer than you might think. A handful of genuine local links from schools, venues and events can make a real difference for a local hire business.
Are directory links worth having?
Relevant, well-run directories are worth it, especially ones that focus on your area or on party and event hire. Avoid directories that exist only to sell links.
Should links point to my home page?
Not always. A link from a school in a particular town is best pointed at your page for that town, and a link about a particular castle at that castle's page. See my town pages guide.
Links work best on a site that already has the basics right, so check my bouncy castle website checklist too. You'll find the rest of my guides on the bouncy castle SEO guides page.
